Some Books Ms. Hughes recommends ...

Students and parents often ask me to recommend books. Well, here are some of the books I've read recently and recommend. And remember -- there is nothing wrong with going for a classic. And there is nothing wrong with a graphic novel! Wander a library and read the first few pages of books with titles that catch your eye. Give it a whirl!

NOTE: These are only my recommendations. You, as student and parent, need to make the final decision about the suitability of a book.

Friday Exam Hall is a dedicated time set aside by teachers in the English Department for students who need to make up missed work or assessments.

All English Teachers use exam hall differently, for Ms. Hughes's students, you MUST make up missed work in the first Friday exam hall after your return to school. In an extenuating circumstance, you must see Ms. Hughes to schedule the next earliest make up time.

It is YOUR responsibility to see Ms Hughes IMMEDIATELY upon your return to find out what work you have missed. Neither Ms. Hughes nor your other teachers at Byng will be chasing you around to remind you. Again, making up work is YOUR responsibility.

IMPORTANT! An "excused" absence is one for which you are ALLOWED to make up missed work; it does NOT exclude you from doing the work.
