Frankenstein: In-class Essay


Purpose:

To demonstrate your ability to express your analysis of the novel in literary essay form.

• narrowed thesis
• smoothly integrated textual support
• discussion and analysis
• etc.

Task:

Now that you have demonstrated your ability to analyze text in a multi-modal framework, the next phase is to move your analysis into the literary essay form.

Method:

• You are analyzing the text!
• Focus on ONE idea unearthed in your exploration of the novel.
• Do NOT explain your entire project; this was done in your artist’s statement and your rationale. Choose a specific aspect explaining how it works in relation to the text.
• Your project has provided a direction of thinking and evidence in support of that thinking; now is your opportunity to discuss an aspect of what you have discovered or recognized in the text.
• You may want to direct your analysis in defense of

The value of this essay is 15% of Term 3.
You will be marked on the 6 Point Literary Analysis Scale.
